Here are a few examples. If you wish to reproduce or reprint a story, or obtain a copy of the book in which the story has been printed, please contact me.
Soul Fish
The story Soul Fish came to me at a time when I was doing a lot of reading about the soul. It bubbled up out of the questions, “What is soul? What does it mean to have a soul? What does it mean to lose a soul?” (From the book Soul Fish.)
The Permanent Cat
The Permanent Cat was originally written for a speech that was given by Lynne Bezanson, who was Executive Director of the Canadian Career Development Foundation. She wanted to give images to the changes that workers are making as they move from the traditional notion of “job security” that we find “out there” to the kind of security we find “in here.” A cat came to the rescue, a sleek and gray Siamese. (From Brave Work.)
The Mountain Change
It’s not easy to describe the magnitude of the changes we are experiencing in the work world, but, as The Mountain Change illustrates, they go much deeper than a change of jobs. (From Brave Work.)
The Wandering Tree
I wrote The Wandering Tree for the Canadian Cancer Society. It is a story that expresses how people who have survived mortal diseases can support others who are going through the crisis. (From Soul Fish.)
Old Woman’s Hill
It’s amazing how we can get buried under the weight of our roles. I wondered what would happen if the full weight of all roles—real, expected and wished for—came down on our heads? What would emerge after the collapse? (From A. Seeker’s Storybook.)
